Brandon Blackburn, CPA

Partner

“We stand out because of Lanigan Ryan’s culture. So when I think about what we’re about, the number-one term is ‘family.’ I treat my clients as an extension of my own family because I genuinely want them to succeed.”

Brandon Blackburn is a partner at Lanigan Ryan, whose work includes audits, reviews, compilations, business income tax planning and preparation, and accounting and consulting services, particularly for construction contractors.

Although he still handles audits, Brandon’s practice focuses more on attestation and tax work with contractors. He performs review and tax engagements while working closely with his clients’ internal reporting departments. Much of his current work is subjective, requiring team members to have a great degree of knowledge – from internal processes to financial statements to tax methods that a non-specialized CPA might not be familiar with.

Brandon has established a niche in his accounting business: helping contractors whose companies may have grown too quickly. He helps make sense of his clients’ numbers while cleaning up messy situations. Brandon also trains clients’ accounting departments and develops procedures to ensure the company won’t fall into a similar predicament.

Like many businesses served by the firm, Brandon’s clients often face anxiety about the unknown. They worry about where their business is going, how to manage a large contract, and — of course — their tax bill. For Brandon, it is essential to maintain contact with his clients all year long. He sees that as an opportunity to help them establish procedures for staying up-to-date with current financial situations, forecasting, and tax planning.

“I don’t sit back, wait for my clients’ information to come in once a year, and only take care of clients that once. I’m proactive. I talk to clients throughout the year and do a lot of planning and processing, so reviews and returns go smoothly.”

As an avid golfer, Brandon enjoys meeting clients and other business professionals on the golf course. This presents him the opportunity to connect more deeply and spend more time talking about the issues impacting them. On the personal side, the pandemic had the unexpected benefit of becoming closer to his two daughters – by teaching them golf and attending their soccer events.
